We are rapidly heading towards Christmas Day and I am frantically attempting to sort out cards/presents etc whilst struggling to keep up with the builders who are racing along. I have never known builders like them, here 7 days a week mostly and almost a month ahead of schedule. We dutifully interrupted the Christmas Tree work to go in search of oak beams for a feature which I wanted and hauled them home on the trailor as they were itching to get them installed. Expecting a bit of breathing space, Paul the builder then came and asked me to sort out paint colours. I had to dash off to get testers and make a snap decision when we didn’t expect to think about paint for another month. Anyway, it is all going well and starting to look great. The snow cause us no end of problems as it did for everyone. Lilians water froze up and the lack of facilities can be testing at age 89!! The snow then melted and the gas supply was turned off to repair a leak on the road. David was lying on the floor in front of the gas oven in the Christmas shop trying to re-light the pilot light when a customer came in and had histerics saying she would get help. He wasn’t sure whether she thought he had fallen over or was trying to put an end to it all.
David’s phone rang tonight at 7.30pm, it was Paul the builder in DIY store buying the paint and checking where I got the testers. David said he couldn’t help him as he was in the middle of plucking a turkey and told him to ring me instead. Is Paul as bad as us or are we as bad as him?
The other bit of interesting news is from Laura’s brass band world as she has just become the first woman to be asked to join Brighouse and Ratrick, the champion brass Band of Great Britain this year who were the only band still with an all male playing policy.
